The Awkward World

So if you haven’t heard, I’m off to enroll in the Chicago Institute for Massage Therapy at the beginning of July. Classes start on July 14. I’ll be living in Logan Square with my new buddy Katie, and possibly another girl, and possibly a tiny dog. I’ll be in school for a year, then take the exam next July, then get a job. That’s as much as I know. It’s supposed to be an adventure.

I went to Chicago and Indianapolis for the first time a few weeks ago on an 11 day road trip with the lovely and amazing Erin McKenney. We saw her friends and family in Indy, went to an art museum, checked out a vet school for Erin in Champagne Supernova, and I fell in love with Chicago. Clearly, I’ve never experienced a winter there, but I could not have been more impressed and I could not have felt more at home. We hit many museums and an aquarium, rode the ferris wheel at Navy Pier, met Katie and Erin Watson and nickd and that whole gang, toured the massage school, rode a lot of trains. It was nice.

The day after I returned to Albemarle, my dad had to have emergency surgery on his left eye for a detached retina and he is no longer able to take care of the chicken farm, so that’s my new summer job. Mom will be out of school next week so she can take things over when I leave in July, but for the time being this is consuming almost all of my time. Therefore, getting out of town to visit people is kind of out of the question right now, despite that I miss so many people so badly. It’s my family’s livelihood and someone always has to be around in case something goes wrong. So I really have no idea if I’ll make it up to Lutheridge or Chapel Hill before July, but I’ll definitely try.

And there’s a general synopsis of where my life is right now. I hope to be able to keep this blog up to date, especially when I go out of town, because I know I won’t be able to stay in touch with everyone as much as I’d like, so be sure to check back from time to time. The idea is to ween myself off of the Facebooks, but we’ll have to see about that.
