November is National Novel Writing Month November 2, 2008

…so I think I will celebrate, once again, by not writing a novel.
Although 175 pages in 30 days is certainly doable, I think my sense of accomplishment would be dwarfed by the fact that I had just exhausted myself and spent a month writing an enormous stream-of-consciousness first draft which I will never use. Maybe next year.
Instead, I will once again take up the banner of the Salon Challenge. Last November, a handful of Salon writers (myself included) celebrated NaNoWriMo by penning a short story a week. I feel this is a better use of my time, since these stories will be length-appropriate and potentially pubishable. I also know that if I had to have 175 pages before November 30, I would realize on November 25 that I need 170 more pages. But this way, I have a deadline every Saturday and I’ll end up with 4 pieces of original fiction. I’ll throw the results up on this blog, but don’t expect anything polished. And if any of you fellow wordsmiths out there care to join me, it would be great to have some company!
Till next time,
Tanner
